![]() With Sicily as its native country – the collection was first launched in Taormina in 2012 – Dolce&Gabbana wanted to go back to its roots. This setting is an ensemble of preserved temples located on a mesa with a wide view of the Mediterranean sea. This complex – which is considered one of the most complete with Parthenon – was built some five centuries before Christ. Staged in the Valley of the Temples, in the shadow of the Sicilian town of Agrigento, Dolce&Gabbana managed to do a more than a breathtaking catwalk that will increase your emotions tenfold. Valley Of The Temples Dolce&Gabbana Alta Moda 2019 “When you actually see the extraordinary couture pieces, you’re reminded of the 90-year legacy of the artisanship of Fendi, and there is something magical about that”, stamped after the show Justine Picardie, editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar magazine “It doesn’t happen enough in fashion, but when it does, it makes me feel inspired and positive about the landscape.” “Legends and Fairy Tales”was the name given to this catwalk, highlighting beautiful creatures who populated an enchanted forest – what a magical story! The pieces were made of lace, feathers, organza, and intricate embroideries and fur by experienced artisans who worked for hours and hours. It also should be noted that In 2013, Fendi made a 2.4 million dollars investment to restore the Trevi Fountain – showing that they didn’t forget from where they came (Rome is its home city). The models – with Kendall Jenner who opened the show – were walking on a glass runway, as the sun was setting on one of Rome’s most historic landmarks. Have you ever seen a catwalk where models walk on water? Karl Lagerfeld had made it possible by making a fashion show on the Trevi Fountain in Roma, celebrating the house 90’s anniversary. ![]() Trevi Fountain Fendi Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2016/2017 Laughing at how silly an abstract runway look is because it’d be crazy to wear in the streets, is like hearing a slam poem and laughing because it’s the most absurd elevator music you’ve ever heard. This was one of the most unexpected catwalks ever! You’ll be surprisingly astonished by seeing models walking on the floor and then, suddenly, falling into deep clear water. Stop believing that fashion designers really expect people to wear their abstract designs in any other context but modeling. Like you don’t have to like the art or even the artform but just know that it is abstract art, for christs sake. They’re performances with stories and climaxes- if they’re well done. Rather, they spend a long time designing it and being creative with materials to convey a feeling or statement, and then also collaborate with a model (kind of an actor) to help that statement come to life. I generally don’t care if people are “cultured” or art informed but this one just bothers me because some people literally think that there are just some insane clothing designers hoping to see the dress they made out of curtains and origami paper out on the street or hanging on a rack after being mass-produced. Many abstract fashion designs have clear themes (if you look for just a minute or two) of sexism and oppression, military and government influence, environmental justice, and sexuality.Īnd it’s ok to not like it and it’s ok if you don’t get it, but if your main critique is “haha that looks crazy no one would ever wear that” then like… babe, that’s the whole point. That style of runway fashion is utilizing the human body as a canvas, and various materials as their medium. ![]() This is especially the case for runway looks that have like, feather dusters and trash bags and weird shit. It depends on the fashion show, but generally, those clothes aren’t meant to be worn in any other context. Like, you guys know that’s not an outfit that anyone expects is going to be worn on the street, right?
